A Collared kingfisher has just caught a crab in the mangroves at low tide.
In typical kingfisher fashion this Collared kingfisher smashes the crab against a branch to tenderise it.
Once tenderised there is a bit of chomping
Once tenderised enough it is down the hatch!
Looking very happy with itself
Down on the mangrove flats at low tide there is plenty more where that came from.
The Mud Skipper also makes a tasty meal for the Collared Kingfisher.
On a side note, this species was the only one missing from my Northern Territory kingfisher species list.
